John McCann -- b.1828 Meath

Searching for McCann's with ties to Meath area in early 1800's -- are there any McCann families in this area who may have ties to John McCann born in Meath 1828 -- John immigrated to USA ~1847  --  John had a Margaret McCann(possible younger sister) listed with Thomas Gibney as witnesses to baptism of several of John's children -- this Margaret McCann married Thomas Gibney -- John McCann and Thomas Gibney both list "East Meath" as their place of birth -- no mention of a townland or parish -- is it possible to find connections to these families -- any way to narrow the search -- how many parishes were in this area in 1828 -- hopefully less than there are today ??
