Try searching for your grandfather's birth index entry: assuming he was born after 1912, it will show you his mother's maiden name in the entry .... if you then purchase the Cert, you will get his father's name and occupation - hopefully this chap might be alive in the 1901 census, if not, repeat above !

Of course you must respect his privacy if he asks you .....

Indexes are currently free to search on Ancestry - http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8964

When you get futher back than 1920, there's a chance that any BMDs will be transcribed by FreeBMD -

Happy research!

I have searched for him on Ancestry and can't find him on there at all.

I do not know his mothers or fathers names, not even their first names.

I am going to see him tomorrow so I may get more info if he will talk to me.  I've never asked so I don't know until I do, what his answer will be.

Wish me luck.

He is Horace Val and had lots of siblings of which I know a few of their names but not all.  Olga, Orlando, Philip and Mady/Madie.

Thanks

Well I have found out that he was born in 1929 in the Bosmere District and his mothers maiden name was Green.

Going to have to ask him for more info and hope he will tell me something.

Have to work my best grandaughter charm on him.... Wink

I have Welhams of Washbrook in my tree, but you will have to get back until1841 before we could make a connection.   My 3 X great grandmother was Emma Welham, and she left Washbrook to go to London by 1861.

I have an Emma but born around 1858 in Barking Tye in Suffolk. Can't be the same one.  Parents names were Stephen and Caroline. Undecided

Don't have any links to Battisford so far but haven't branched out very far yet, only started this about a month ago.  Smiley  Will keep that in mind!
