I thought they were just hiding

I've been hunting for Henry & Ann Pickering in 1861 without success. They have two children baptised at Arlecdon, in 1859 and 1862. At each occasion Henry was described as a Schoolmaster at Frizington.

So the index didn't produce any of the family. They must be misfiled, right?

None of the Henrys indexed in Frizington or Arlecdon matched. I started to think the vicar had made a mistake, and thought that because Henry worked at Frizington, he must live there too. Just in case, I paged through the whole 38 pages of Frizington on Ancestry.

There are four pages missing.

The first page is numbered 1, the last 42. Henry must be on one of the missing ones. Some of the pages show serious damage - I can well believe that a few didn't make it to the 21st century.

Shame, isn't it?
