Hunts.marriage/baptism indexes??
« on: Tuesday 10 October 06 19:28 BST (UK) »

Hi All,

I'm sure MJP has found one of the missing links on one of my lines, I now have the father on all the censuses, but I can't find any birth/marriage records to verify it is the correct one.

I've tried Ancestry and 1837 for the daughter's birth/marriage with no luck, and familysearch for the father's, again nothing.

Does anyone know if there are any online indexes for Hunts.?

Regards

Other than the IGI no baptism/marriage indexes online. Although if it's after 1837 there's the images on Ancestry.co.uk, or Freebmd. And of course there's always www.ffhs.org.uk for Hunts burials which is pretty complete up to 1837 and quite a few later than that

How about giving us some names and dates? There's the BVRI which has quite a few Hunts names on it plus the Hunts Marriage Index which goes up to 1837 (but these are not online)

Hunts is not an easy county to research online. Many parish registers have not even been filmed by the LDS so are only available for viewing at Huntingdon Records Office

Per FreeBMD
An Isaac Wootton was married in the Dec quarter 1841 in St Neots registration district which includes Buckden and Offord Darcy. If you buy the marriage cert you'll get fathers' names and the name of his wife.

Do you have details of Isaac from the 1841 census?

For Offord Darcy baptisms you can view the microfilm at your nearest LDS Family History Centre or buy a transcript on fiche from Hunts FHS. Or post a request on this board and if you're lucky someone might have the fiche.

Hi; David

Thanks for all the info. - trust me to have a family that come from a place I cannot research!!

I found the marriage on freebmd for Isaac,  would you believe there were 3 Sarah's on that page,  also when I checked the '41 census, the Isaac & Sarah I found were living with a Samuel Wootton aged 72, poss. father to Isaac, and Ann aged 4, poss. eldest child for Isaac, but she would have been born in 1837 so now I'm not sure about the marriage on freeBMD either!!

I don't like to take up other people's time looking these up at the moment because until I can find their daughter Mary's marriage I can't be 100% sure they're the correct couple - I believe she married outside Hunts. - it's one thing for me to waste my time barking up the wrong tree, but I don't like the thought of others doing the same for me.

Thanks for the help.

Sarah might have been Isaac's sister and Mary her illegitimate daughter??

There's no Isaac Wootton on Hunts marriage index up to 1837, and no burials of a Wootton in Buckden 1837-41.

But I agree you should find Mary's marriage to get her father's name

Hi David

Thank you very much for looking.

Although nothing found, it means I can eliminate that area from my search.

Thanks again
