I saw an ad a while ago for the Jewish Museum in London and I thought at the time it might be useful for anyone with Jewish ancestry (none in my lot so far!).

The historical collections look interesting anyway http://www.jewishmuseum.org.uk/

Captivating and fascinating on more than one level  Wink

I liked the way the programme took an already prepared tree and added the detail to it......so even if you "inherit" someone else's research you can always learn more and make it come alive.

I enjoyed her story very much, but I am sorry to say Nigella is not my cup of tea at all.

I felt that she wanted the 'grander' life not that she hadn't had one,  Cheesy

It must be nice to visit all the places your rellies lived without a care in the world - no babysitting to arrage, make sure you have enough cash to go to with, can you get a train etc etc  Grin

Yes Jane I agree

and look up census records on ancestry and find them instantly.  Walk into the FRC and come out with death certificates.

I really enjoyed the programme, in as much as it covered new ground with the Jewish connection (as I have found my brickwall of a GGG grandfather, was possibly Jewish).

Nigella on the other hand dropped in my estimation. She did have delusions of grandeur (as L.A.Blue mentioned) and what a fitting end to the story, need I say more!

Still love the cookery books.  Grin

Apparently what does it for some men is the voice and the fact that unlike most celebrities she has curves!!!!!

So I have just been informed!

I totally agree with you Jane about Nigella, she isn't my cup of tea now either!
To be honest because her history had already been mapped out I felt it lacked the element of surprise.
The footage of Belson was shocking and very emotive, but why was this shown in such detail when it was only assumed her grandfather had been there?
The cynic in me hopes it wasn't included to dramatize quite a lack lustre programme.
Could it be I was so looking forward to it and it wasn't as good as I'd hoped?

I think some of you out there are suffering WDYTYA fatigue.  Smiley

If she had been the first in the series then I expect we would have had a different response.

I wonder what the price of virgins is these days?  Wink

You mean they don't?  I've not been to a FRC yet - you've shattered all my illusions!!!

Back to Nigella - not as interesting as others but then you can't guarantee that your rellies are going to be as exciting as you want them to be!

I think the factual stuff could have been very interesting i.e. How someone who arrived in Britain with nothing could within one or two generations have the business empire they had.  How and why did they make the leap from tobacco to catering?  Amazing !  However, as others have said, instead we got a tenous link to the camps and rather a lot made of it without there being actual proof of any kind.  I felt cheated but to be fair not really anything to blame Nigella for.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (who traditionally resides at No. 11 Downing Street) is the government's chief financial minister  and has equivalent ‘rank’ to a Secretary of State, (rather than just a minister, as there are several Treasury Ministers).   He is responsible for raising government revenue through taxation or borrowing and for controlling overall government spending.  The Chancellor is the most senior figure at the Treasury, although the Prime Minister holds the additional title of 'First Lord of the Treasury', since he is the Prime minister.

I can't understand all the fuss about Nigella Lawson - so, she cooks ..... and.....?  I bet she's glad her father wasn't called Sidney or Horace - Sidella? Horacella?    Nah!!!

My main complaint, which is very small as I love these series, is how they don't give equal focus to the women.  I really dislike the way the graphic of the tree lists the women under their married name - in my mind it should ALWAYS be birth name.

Pleased they have started using the womens maiden name in the trees instead of the married names

Sadly that is probably only because Nigella was using an already prepared tree.

I really really agree with you though geordie lad, it is the correct way of doing things.
