I am seeking a photograph of Glenfarne Hall, Co Leitrim. This was the home of the Tottenham family and the estate was on the shore of Lough MacNean. Can anyone help?

Also I would be interested in any history of the house.

Hi steve ya i have a pic of glenfarne hall,a map of the estate and a bit of info on the house and who lived in it,if you want it.ican email you or post to you all the info i have.Id say the picture was taken during tottenhams time at the house and it apears to be a fine georgian house(pity it ended up being tossed and the stone used for a forestry road.let me know if you want what i have

Hello iammjh,

Welcome to RootsChat.

Glenfarne Hall (near Lough MacNean), a forty eight room mansion, was built around 1820 for the Tottenham family. The property became the home of Sir Edward James Harland, Bart., M. P. for North Belfast towards the end of the nineteenth century. Sir Edward died there on Christmas Eve 1895. The building was burnt down during the Civil War in Ireland (1918-21). .

I have a special interest in sundials and am currently researching a 19th c. slate sundial maker called Richard Melville a.k.a. Melvin who may have come from Co. Down.  One of his dials was made in 1844 for a Hy. Tottenham and has the Latitude of 54D 21M inscribed, this is the latitude of Enniskillen/Downpatrick and places in between. I found a young Hy Tottenham from Enniskillen at school in England during the 1861 census and this aroused my interest. Of course this dial may have been made for a Hy T. in England or for that matter anywhere else along the 54D 21M line. You can see a thumbnail image of this dial on the homepage of my website
