John EMMERSON & Mary Ann BLAIR
Known children all recorded at Tempo, parish of Enniskillen and/or Cleenish.
Female:    ?........... ...4th Feb 1864
Male:       John   .....12th Apr 1868
    "          Robert..... 8th Sep 1870
Female    Margaret...9th Jul 1872
Male        Thomas 22nd Jun 1874
Source: Vital records Index British Isles

Griffiths Valuation Index (1847-1864)
Blair surname listed in Cleenish parish but not in Tempo and Em(m)erson listed in Enniskillen also not in Tempo

The only John Emerson listed in Fermanagh is at two locations
Parish:      Aghalurcher     Location:      Carrickpolin
Parish:      Magheracross  Location:      Coa

This may be John senior or another relative, and the john married to Mary Ann Blair may only have occupied property at Tempo after the Valuation, but there are many scenarios!.

Hope it helps.
Mike.

thanks so much for your help Mike  Smiley

We have always spelt the name EMERSON with one M.
I see that Elizabeth & Mary Jane  are not on this list,  .... any ideas as to why this would be.
They both immigrated to NZ in 1885, Elizabeth was approx 18 years old, hence the year of birth 1867.

thanks for you help.
regards,
Paddy

There are numerous reasons why the two ladies do not appear in eith the online search or in the CDrom version, it may simply be they were not transcribed, but more than likely the section, page or entire book is missing, damaged etc.
Sadly many records have been lost due to fading ink, water damage, rising damp, rodent attack and worst of all humad vandalism where an entire page has been removed because one entry for someones ancestor was on the page.

I know this from first hand experience, when I sat browsing parish record books in Limerick, the PP sat with me and when I suggested he need not stay I got the reason why he had to remain with me, he then went on to show me where pages had been removed, also other damage.

When we search an undamaged book for an ancestor we knew had been born 1840 and was not able to find a record we were also informed that "unfortunately PP's did not always attend to the records and would forget to include them, so there is another reason that records cannot be found.

The firs unamed female on the list may have been one of the children you are missing, birth dates recorded elsewhere in the world cannot be substantiated anyway.

Mike.

Mike, i really do appreciate the trouble you have gone to, to get this info for me.  This is the first time i have used this site and i'm thrilled with the response.

I'm not sure where to go from here, but the info you have given me is wonderful.
I'd like to find John Emerson's parents names & maybe Mary Anne Blair's parents names too.
Elizabeth Emerson was my great grandmother.  My grandfather, father & nephew, all have the name Emerson as their middle name, which is why i have an interest to find out more of this family.
I plan to look at some microfiche files when i'm next up in Christchurch (NZ), but that may not be for a month or two yet.

have a nice day

Hi there Mike,
I got the marriage date you sent for John & Mary Anne Emerson, and the birthdates for John, Robert, Margaret & Thomas?  Are these the one's you mean?
Still looking to find the birthdate of Elizabeth and confirm when Mary-Jane was born.
Also birthdates and death dates of any of them.  Do you have easy access to this sort of info??
really appreciate all your help.
kind regards
Paddy

Hello Paddy.

You can consider the Fermanagh Heritage Centre for a paid research, but they can be pretty costly.

My suggestion is send a letter to the Emerson addresses that I sent you, you can almost place a bet that they are related and may well have their genealogy done.

I have provided current addresses to people researching their irish roots, where a surname from the 1800's still shows today and with moderate success, although on a couple of occasions the writer has been requested not to continue making contact, why is a mystery, but I have heard that some in Ireland are concerned about inheritance claims!!

I reckon a letter is your best line of research from here.

Mike.

I can't help you with your search but I'm wondering if we may have a distant connection with the Blair name.
Letitia Coulter, parents George Coulter & Deborah Blair
Letitia born abt 1846 in Enniskillen, Fer, Ireland married
Alexander Glover, my husbands ggrandparents
I have not been able to confirm all this info as yet. It is so frustrating. Do you have much about the Blair family?
regards pegdoll. ps I live in Ch.Ch. NZ

Hi there,
Interestingly, I have a Letitia Anne Blair on our family tree, born 1866, but no Letitia Coulter & no Deborah Blair.
Will keep an eye out for you though if I come across those names.
I live in Timaru :-)  Heading to ChCh tomorrow for the weekend.
regards Paddy
