Murder in 1779
« on: Wednesday 18 October 06 15:03 BST (UK) »

Can anyone tell me if Shropshire archives holds information about Murders and where people were executed?

I have already contacted the National Archives to see if they have the information and i am awaiting a reply.

I am specifically looking for the trail of Thomas Corfield who murdered Joseph Cooper. Thomas was executed on 26/3/1779.

Best wishes

Hi,
Have you looked on this site...
http://www.a2a.org.uk
if you put Thomas Corfield in the search engine and then Shropshire Archives in the location there are 20 "hits"-don't know if they may be of any relevance to you though?Flo'

Thanks flo,
i have had a look but i cannot find anything to do with the trial or murder.

Tracy

Im affraid that i havent found out anything. The national archives did reply to me saying they could find no reference to the trial of thomas corfield.

From what i already knew, thomas corfield was hung at shrewsbury ( i think) on 26/3/1779. He was executed for the murder of joseph cooper ( my ancestor). Josephs sibling Ann married a richard corfield. I was wondering if richard and thomas were siblings and if it was a family dispute?

Just in case anyone wants to look at the assize list http://uk.geocities.com/becky62655@btinternet.com/salop.html

Thanks again flo
Best wishes
