Hi Arkendale is just outside Knaresborough (today close to the A1) - Ripon is North West of the village. So it is the same area...... but I don't know od a Ardwick locally.....the only one I can find is near Manchester.

Yes Ardwick is in Manchester and William HARRISON was at 5 Railway View,Ardwick in 1871 census.
His birthplace is given as Bondgate, Ripon,Yorkshire !!! Could this be Arkendale ? or near ! Noted a christening for a William HARRISON in 1842 in Arkendale.

Bondgate is in the centre of Ripon ......... have alook on www.streetmap.co.uk......
Ripon is about 12 miles North od Knareasborough Arkendale is a small village about 4 miles to the East of Knaresborough
on 'genuki' you can find lots of info on all these......there is a White's directory for 1837 which shows that Bondgate had lots of tradespeople ...Blacksmiths, bricklayers, clog & patten makers, gardener, a beerhouse, a school and the 'Bricklayers Arms'.
I have not found a Harrison family there but it is worth looking at the other years too ......you are more likely than me to make a connection !
I have a family who lived in Thirsk for generations but some of the children were born in other places...I imagine they could have been born at the home of the mother's parents, or a sister. Also, I found that lots of my fathers family of different generations were born in the same house.....after a long time I discovered that his ggggrandmother had been a midwife....this was on no records or census' until I received a copu of her death certificate and it was mentioned !
