Frank
I seem to be following your postings around the boards!
William Simpson has given his birth place in the 1851 and 1861 Censuses as Canisbay Caithness.
This looks like the family in 1841 with a relation of Helen living with them:
Helen Simpson, 15 Helen Simpson, 1 William Simpson, 25 Isabella Warse, 9
William is showing as a fisherman. The family is living at Island of Stroma, Canisbay. All showing as born in the county.
In 1851 from FreeCen:
William, 41, Pilot & Farmer 5 Acres, b. Caithness - Canisbay Hellen, 30 Hellen, 11 Elizabeth, 9 William, 7 Mary, 5 Donald, 3
The family are also showing on FreeCen for 1861 with a number of other children. If you have a look, William's entry is under:
SIMPSON William 51 Cottar & Fisherman b. Caithness - Canisbay at Canisbay
The children are well documented on IGI with father William Simpson/Simson and mother Helen Warse/Wares as you stated.
Regards.
Monica

The closest I can get to a birth on IGI for William in Caithness is 1807 but the parents seem wrong (Peter and Charlotte). If you find his death cert on SP, this would hopefully confirm who they were. Although, there may be no birth/christing entry for him.
Regards.

There is one possible entry on IGI for Helen which is a submitted entry rather than an actual extract:
HELEN WARES Birth:28 JAN 1820/ Christening: 11 FEB 1820 Canisbay, Caithness, Scotland Parents: Father:DONALD WARES Mother:HELEN ROBESON
9 children showing for this couple on IGI including Helen and an Isabella b. 1830 which would fit the (sister) girl living with William and Helen in 1841 Census.
Regards.

Hi Don
Welcome to Rootschat!
William is certainly son of William and Bessy. Sent Frank William's death cert. today (he died in 1873) so family/parents confirmed.
Regards.

I have a James Simpson born approx 1802, living in Widewall in South Ronaldsay in the 1821 census. Have no ideas where he was born, or who his parents were. He was my 3x gt grandfather.

I have 7 James Simpsons in my tree so far.The closest I have to yours is 1799 on Stroma. My line went to Orkney between 1826 and 1841.My Ggrandfather came to Canada in 1880.Probably some connection but with so many of the same first names it gets confusing.
