Returning home

I'm surely not the only Rootschatter who finds it frustrating that I have to scroll up the whole page to get back to the main page after submitting a post.
I instinctively tend to hit the "back" symbol on my browser, which is fine if I've just been reading the thread. But if I do it after posting, I (naturally) go back to the form with my message in, and then to the thread before I clicked "Reply", and only at the third click do I reach home.
Would be possible to have a link to 'Home' at the bottom of pages as well as at the top?

I'm just checking something in response to your post about where you are taken after posting.

In my profile settings under Look and Layout Preferences, I unchecked "Return to topics after posting by default".

So after posting I was returned (in this instance) to the top of the Technical Help board. It helps, doesn't it?

Mind you, being returned to the just-posted message gives me the chance to check that I haven't made some sort of mistake - yeah, and I do use the preview facility, too!

I also return to topic after posting, by default.

But if I am going to a topic from a list of topics
i.e from the links in
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
Home page
search results
etc,

then I always press shift and then click.  This opens a new browser window and the old list is still available.

Using Firefox is even easier:
Press Control and then click, this opens a new tab
or of you have a wheel mouse, press the wheel, this also opens a new tab for this link.

Close the tab or window afterwards, and you are back to your original list of topics.

Bob

Correction:  pressing the wheel isn't working at the moment . . . but that may just be because I have gone back to Windows 98 for a while because of sharing the Fritzbox DSL link with my daughter's computer.  On Windows 2000 it works fine.

Thanks for those suggestions.
Opening a new browser window is certainly one answer, particularly if you're only in Rootschat, but I tend to have several other windows open anyway (dipping in and out of Rootschat when I have a moment between work and a quick game of Spider Solitaire Wink ) and any more could be a bit confusing.
I've done as you suggested, Koromo, and it's certainly a start. But it would be better to go back to the full list of new posts on the home page, rather than just the particular board.
Still, none of this prevents me enjoying being here Smiley
I just leave the idea of a possible link to home at the bottom of the page as something for the mods and the techies to think about.

And while we're on the subject  Wink can we have a search button at the bottom of the advanced section on the "Search Rootschat" page.

By the time you've unticked, and then ticked the boxes you need, your fingers ache  Grin and I so would love to be able to click on search whilst I'm down there, without having to scroll all the way back up to the top.

Thanks

Gareth
Why not just hit the home button on your keyboard?
Top of the page shows unread posts.
Or am I not understanding the question?

Good thinking, Peter. That would be a good move.
But I'd still rather go back to the home page, with its various divisions and list of recent posts. I might want to check out a thread that was further down the list than the one I'd posted on - presumably that wouldn't appear on the "unread posts" list.

I've just done as Peter suggested and, yes, it's actually a better idea than I first thought.
But I would still prefer to go back to the home page because it also offers the various country and county boards as well.
