Hi Bryant

I believe the 1901 census is currently free to view at Ancestry - might be worth checking?

You can find many of them under this reference:

RG13/2420/157/7.

Still living at East Dean, the wife is Sarah again and Celia is spelt Selia.

Is Letitia your direct line?  She isn't with them.  In fact I am struggling to find her - any idea who she married?

kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Tried it..............busy getting nowhere comes to mind!

I'd much rather have a lookup

My direct line is AUSTIN and i'm hoping it is he who is down as "HOSTIN" in 1881....

I'm just gathering as much info of the family as possible

1901 CENSUS
where they are
who    relationship  age  occupation    where born

Many thanks

Ah - you've added a bit about Austin.

Have you confirmed that he belongs to this family (do you have a birth or marriage cert?)

I think I saw another thread where Keziahemm was looking for him in 1891 - was he found?

Who did he eventually marry/ where/ when?

Thankyou Arranroots

This is not fun.........this is WAR

When you know as little as I do about your grandmother other than her name and her father's name.....full stop
and you have been looking for years............no registered birth cert of her or her brother Austin (the only sibling I know) who died in 1953 aged 56

And as yet this post and its contents is just a whim...........no firm evidence that "Hostin" is Austin...........you appreciate whatever anyone has to offer

Thanks again

I am happy to help, but can you give as much info as you have please?

I realise you might have done this before, but it is essential to effective searching.

If I understand you correctly your grandmother is Austin's sister - who is she?  Do you have her marriage cert, which would give her father's name and occupation?  All the details including witnesses if you do, please - if not when & where should we be looking?

Regarding Austin - what do you know of him?  Did he marry and have you got his cert to confirm father's details?

If you can locate relevant threads on Rootschat that would also help.  ** Have just looked at your one-name study threads - you already have all this information and more.  Hard to see how we can distinguish your relatives from all the other FLETCHERs you have collected without the above-mentioned information

My grandmother LEAH FLETCHER was born approx 1905.....she is aged 22 when she married Frederick Powell in 1927 (have cert)............the witnesses are Powell's...her father is declared as being AUSTIN FLETCHER a quarryman

LEAH had no second name so I have been assured........

I know she also had a brother by the name of AUSTIN who died in 1953 aged 56 (have cert)............neither LEAH or her brother AUSTIN had their birth's registered

I don't know who Austin (her father) married or when............
The only bit of evidence that I have that his name is Austin is from the marriage cert.........Austin's wife (my gr grandmother) apparently died in childbirth........the male child lived, was adopted and went with his new found family to Germany....so I have been told

I was told that the Fletchers were forest people thro & thro (forest of Dean, Glos) and my latest findings might indicate that was true to a certain extent .... they were Gipsies

so here I am waiting for the 1911 census to come along in the hope that my grandmother will be seen in the surroundings of her family?

In the meantime I might pick on a few marriages (if they registered the marriages?) of some of the family seen belonging to Eli & Sarah (Clara?) and see if an "AUSTIN" turns up as a witness?

I'm sorry to say that I never knew my grandmother that well.......if hardly at all! as we lived 200 miles apart from one another.........

Regards

That is the sort of info we need.

Leah married POWELL in Mar Q 1927 in Monmouth reg district.

Have you found a birth cert for her?

Her parents would have been rather elderly by 1905 if it was Eli and Sarah - although the father's name and occupation don't fit anyway.

There is still the question of Austin the borther - did he marry?  Who reported his death?

Still thinking...

As stated before.......

ELI & SARAH (i'm hoping) are the parents of AUSTIN...........AUSTIN is the father of LEAH

LEAH and her brother who was also named AUSTIN didn't have their births registered...............Austin Fletcher (brother) died in 1953 (aged 56)........death was registered by Ruth Fletcher (wife)

If you can find a marriage for an Austin Fletcher marrying a RUTH ......1915-1930? it would be appreciated, as I could get that cert and see what it reveals?

I have the birth cert of Leah Fletcher born Prestwich............John & Rosannah Fletcher (nee Higgins) are her parents
