do you know if Eliza had any siblings as i have a Florence Lucy Jones born1877 in denton northats she married a Fredrick e hollowell her perants were Mary no last name and George Jones

Sorry don't know of any siblings. Anyway I think the birthdates are a bit far apart - 1834 for Eliza and 1877 for Florence. And Eliza's parents were John and Elizabeth.

OK thanks for that it was worth a try as i cant find much more than what i have put up on my Jones line and i got this off of a census

Hi Bob.....

I must be loosing it as I thought I had posted this already...it would seem not Embarrassed

Went to Stony Stratford library and got hold of the books for St Giles.
For Eliza I checked from 1828-1838 and nothing for Eliza Jones.
I then looked in the index for Oliver to find a connection to her mother...no luck again .. :)BUT

...I did find this....

Dec 25 1840 Mary Jane dau of John Jones..painter
& Zillah

Jan 2 1842 Ann Elizabeth dau John Jones glazier Huh

& Zillah

July 9 1843 Louen John son John Jones plumber Huh

& Zillah.

so on my census I found 1851 WOLVERTON

HO107/1737 F217 SCH 0002

Jones John hd m m 34 Sulgrave Nrth Plumber
Zillah wi f m 32 Calverton
Mary J da f u 10 Stony Stratford
Ann E da f u 9 " " "
Louen J son m u 7 " " "
Thomas J son m u 5 Calverton
Catherine S da f u 4 Calverton
Harriett L da f u 2 Calverton
William H so m u 1 month Wolverton
Souster Thomas lo m 21 Fenny Stratford plumber.

So it is possible that her mother died and John remarried in 1840 in Calverton to Zillah Wright.
I need to go through burials next but we now have a John Jones painter/glazier/plumber...alround handy man in thr right place at the right time.

Thanks for your diggings, and 'loosing it' is not a problem. You see when someone tells me I'm loosing it I don't remember what I've lost. Roll Eyes

Looked up on the IGI and found John and Zillah's marriage but nothing else.
John must have felt he was superman with all those trades.

Hi Bob...

Latest update on Eliza front....

Have now checked Calverton PR ....no marriage for John & Elizabeth
no baptism for Eliza
no burial for Elizabeth
First baptism is Thomas Jabez son of John & Zillah glazier.

If Elizabeth is the one closet found by Dinie she was Cosgrove but that is Northants area even though it is straight acroos the A5 from Stony .

I will check Wolverton as well but that gives a few more churches as during this time the railway draws more people into the area for work.

Will keep in my book for next time at the records.

but in Church street/road/ ? , Stony Stratford, West side St.Giles, we have ...

John Jones age 25 NOT born in county ; Plumbers J.
Zillah Jones age 20 born in county
Mary Jones age 7 mnths born in county

I have 1851 which shows an elderly couple called Oliver in Stony Stratford ..Eliza's mum was an Oliver..

Yep John they married 1840 Calvert..thats them.

Certainly looks like John the supertradesman may have been married to Eliza's mum prior to Zillah.

FreeBMD has marriage of John Jones at Potterspury RD in June quarter 1840 vol 15 page 529 . On Same page is Zillah Wright. This ties in with the IGI marriage on 30 APR 1840 at Calverton.

Also I noticed in the 1841 census entry for John & Zillah, there is in the same household (although seems to be separate) an Ann Wright age 15, born in county - Zillah's sister maybe ?

even if this is Eliza's father - where is she in 1841 Huh

has she been sighted in 1851 ?

Good morning John.....

I only have my Bucks cd 1851 and the closest on there is an 18 year old house servant in Soulbury but she has b Sydenham Oxon as birth place.

Are you able to look on a full search?

Her mothers maiden name is given as Oliver and there are a couple in the area but she doesn't appear with them.

Knew you would come up trumps.

If John was aged 24 in 1841 then he was born roughly abt 1817 so if as stated Eliza
was born in 1834? then he would have only been 17+.

Quite possible for a marriage with parents consent.

Also if the 1841 census notes 1st child born shortly after marriage is this the correct family?

Need someone to check if the said John was a Widow when marrying Zillah.

It maybe that Eliza is with Grand-parents on the 1841 John so maybe a look under Oliver might be of assistance.

Hi Sandy.....

At the moment as you see from the postings we do have a John Jones painter /Dec / in the right place but yes we are only second guessing that he is the one we are looking for.

I have been into Stony and so far checked St Giles for an Eliza...Calverton ( were the marriage took place to Zillah) IGI member sub also shows John b here @1816.

So really what we need is an Eliza Jones b 1834 Stony Stratford to jump out on a census and as yet she is not playing ball.....

Do you have anything on Cosgrove ?
