Ellen LACEY born 26.7.1856 Ryde IOW 25 12 .1872 Married William KAY soldier Residence Parkhurst camp IOW Ellen (LACEY) KAY arrived in Canada in September 1894. With her were her children, Kate, born at Aldershot camp 19.9.1874 Alice, born at new Barracks Johnston Terrace Edinburgh. 19.9.1874 Bertram Charles .born Ryde IOW 1.10. 1887 Fred William. Born Ryde IOW 29.1.1891 one of a twin She left William KAY by then When Ellen KAY arrived in Canada she was Mrs. O'Flaherty and she was with child. Leila O'FLAHERTY was born in May, 1895. I have no idea what ship or what port. She may have been Mrs. Kay or Mrs. O'Flaherty, (husband was Maurice a tailor from 1901 census haven’t found marriage) but the children would be listed with her. Ellen (LACEY) KAY, O’FLAHERTY was living at King St Dundas 12 .4.1915 (in report of death of her son Bertram Charles) Maurice died 13 September 1913, I don’t know when but she later married --- Hunter her children Kate, married pre 1897 to David PYLE in Hamilton
Alice, Kay died in October 1920 I don’t know where or if she was married. Bertram Charles returned to the Isle of Wight. He married an English woman and joined the army. He was killed at Neuve Chappelle in March 1915. His children were raised in Canada. Fred KAY had died in Dundas in 1990 this is all I know of him. Any info or suggestions would be most welcome

I have spent a lot of time looking for the ship that Ellen KAY arrived in and port she arrived at, all I know is was September 1894 I have searched under LACEY, KAY & O'Flaherty & variations, also looked for Maurice O'Flaherty( to se if he brought his family with him form the IOW) couldn’t find him either Thanks again AnnE

On the link I gave you above;
http://ogs.andornot.com/OldFiles/CemeteryIndex.htm
Wait until it is completely loaded, then type the last name and the name of the cemetery, or just the name of the cemetery. Unfortunately, it does not list the ages or dates of deaths for any of the people you are looking for.
You can either try and get in touch with the cemetery for any other information they may have on file, or you can see if someone can do a lookup for you. Below I have posted a link that lists people willing to do lookups. You want the people from "Hamilton" or "Hamilton - Wentworth" areas. The only thing they ask, is that you not ask for the same information from 2 or more sources. (So you can ask one for cemetery lookups and photos, and another for public records lookups.) Most, if not all, should be free, except of course for the cost of copying, etc.

Hope this helps.

Here is a link that I found interesting, although it has nothing to do with the Canada connection.

Also this link; I am not sure if it is of any use, but maybe. http://www.isle-of-wight-memorials.org.uk/index.htm

Hi Ann E,
I have a subscription to ancestry.ca, which has digitized all the Ontario BMD records.
I have looked for Leila's marriage, but with no luck. But marriages are only available up to 1922 right now (due to privacy laws). She could easily have married after that.
But here is Alice's marriage and death:
#004192-18 (York Co.) Groom: James Gibson Age: 55 Residence: Niagara-on-the-Lake Place of Birth: Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland Widower Occupation: Teamster Religious Denomination: Presbyterian Father: John Gibson Mother: Agnes Clark
Bride: Alice Kay Age: 40 Residence: Niagara-on-the-Lake Place of Birth: Embro, Scotland Widow [then why is her name Kay?] Occupation: (blank) Religious Denomination: Presbyterian Father: Marshall Flaherty Mother: Ellen Lacey
Winesses: Dorothy Dunn, 90 Winchester St., Toronto, and Margaret H. Brown, 92 Winchester St. Toronto Date and Place of Marriage: 15 Aug 1918 at 92 Winchester St. Toronto Clergyman: Geo. M. Brown, 92 Winchester St. Toronto, Methodist
License Issued 15 Aug 1918
#007417-20 (York Co.) Alice Gibson Place of Death: Tor Gen Hospital [=Toronto General] Female Scotch origin Married Age: 42 Place of Birth: Scotland Occupation: (blank) Name of Father: (blank) Name of Mother: (blank) Informant: James Gibson, Husband, R(?) 452 Richmond W. Place of burial: Toronto [well that's informative no isn't it! ] Undertaker: H. R. Ranks, 455 Queen W. Date of Death: 11 Oct 1920 Dates attended by medical practitioner: from 4 Oct to 11 Oct Cause of Death: Intestinal Paralysis Secondary Cause: Peritonitis and Haemorrhage, 3 days Operation preceded death - 8 Oct 1920, but no autopsy Physician: R. V. B. Shior(?), Tor Gen Hospital

Thanks again MPJ spot on. As for Leila I looked up her death that Janice gave me & found
Married women may be listed twice in the index; under their maiden name and under their married name. for example: Brown Sarah [maiden name entry] Wright Sarah (Brown) [married name entry] I will contact them to see if they know any more.
Alice was born at new Barracks Johnston Terrace Edinburgh. 19.9. 1874 her father was William KAY, Ellen her mother left him, I am not surprised she left him according to his army & medical records he was a bit of a lad! was in prison three times & AWOL I think he liked wine women & song ! She ran off to Canada with him a thrice widowed Irish tailor who was blind in one eye, he was from the IOW, who name was Maurice O'Flaherty her step father. She knocked 4 years off her age, ( unless she forgot how old she was !) Poor thing she was only married two years, I now know why I couldn't’t find her in the census for Wentworth Dundas, I will look that up now, oh I see she was a widow, that may be a problem , I will look any way, She may have married a KAY,!! Oh well it makes life interesting doesn't it . Thank you once again , it all makes interesting reading AnnE
