It's difficult without much to go on, if you have entries for censuses it's good to give the details so that we can see past/future history.
So far 1861 shows this family who may well be related Northwich Road, Wharton, Cheshire Owen Curzon Head M 62 Labourer at Salt Works Cheshire Wharton Ann Wife M 60 " " / William Curzon Lodger Unm 31 Lancashire Liverpool RG9/ 2606; Folio: 66; Page: 3
Are you expecting your Owen to be living in Cheshire or born in Cheshire?

Depending on who wrote the sheet, this could be a mistranscription based on sound, occupation looks good. 1861 Aboard the vessel John, Sandon Dock, Liverpool Owen Cousins Married 30 Master Winsford Cheshire W H Atherton Married 48 Mate " " Joseph Atherton Unmarried 17 Seaman " " RG9/4506; Folio: 177

I think you will need the details from the marriage certificate to ascertain the father's name for Elizabeth and then try to match up the birth/baptism with the mother.
Of course even if born in Davenham there's no guarantee that she was still living there in 1841 and that's the only search that can be done for the 1841 census, not a birthplace search. There are two Elizabeths, one born 1826 (mother apparently Mary and some siblings) and the other 1835 (mother apparently Sarah and some siblings) in Davenham.

Hi Mary, What I have is a civil marriage taking place in 1850 between Owen Curzon (son of Owen and Ann) and ELizabeth Atherton.
ELizabeth (wife) appears on 1851 census in Winsford Hill Wharton, but husband Owen is not listed with her.
I then have Owen and Elizabeth and their children listed on the 1871 and 1881 censuses in Wharton Cheshire.
I was curious to track down Owen Jnr in 1851 (his wife had just had a daughter who was with his parents for the census), and hopeful to find Elizabeth with her own parents perhaps on the 1841 census.
Any help would be wonderful. And of course if there is no luck, I will send off for Owen and Elizabeths marriage to determine her father, and go from there!! Is Davenham a big PR to request a baptism search??

I would almost certainly say that the Owen Cousins on board ship in 1861 would be your man, W H Atherton probably being related to Elizabeth and maybe Joseph being his son? a kind of keep it in the family.
It could well be that Owen was on a ship that just didn't get enumerated in 1851 or maybe somebody else will have better luck as I've had a further unsuccessful search.
There are many helpful people on here who, if they have access to the Davenham PR's will do a look up for Elizabeth for you, however you are still in the predicament of not knowing which of the two are yours.
The marriage certificate for Owen and Elizabeth will give you her father's name and from there I would suggest that you ask for a marriage look up of the father, http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,136771.660.html Chris or Peter on this thread are extremely helpful with marriages pre-1837 in Cheshire to find out which of the surviving mothers on the 1841 census, with daughter Elizabeth, was his wife. I hope that makes sense as it will identify which is yours.
Mary

Mary, Many thanks!!
I will send off for Owen and Elizabeths marriage cert and go from there.
Can you tell me anything about the ship info you quoted - I take it then that a census occupation of 'waterman' actually means sailor of some sort?? Were they shipping supplies or something of that nature?
Many thanks again for your patient advice - it is very much appreciated!! Kylie

Sorry there is no more information, a census taken of those on a ship is the same as those in a household, it just gave the name of the ship as being the John and that it was at Sandon Dock in Liverpool. The occupations were as stated, Owen Cousins being the Master.
Good luck with the certificate.
