My offer still stands but for bigger searches, it might be worth while getting one of those internationally accepted credit cards JUST for this. You could pay it off each month by dirct debit and incur no interest.

I think I may have to contact them directly and see if I can send a money order..it may take a bit longer but I can wait....I still have family over there somewhere but I don't think anyone is close to anywhere the records are kept.

I've emailed them directly to inquire about other methods of payment so hopefully I'll hear something soon.  I don't know if they work weekends so it may be next week before I hear anything but I really appreciate everyone who has tried to help, Thank yoyu all very much

Hi suzyq,

Some time ago I also had no way of paying SP via the net.  In my case I did not have a debit card at all, never mind a credit card.  When I was lamenting this, someone told me that banks have some sort of card that you purchase for a set amount, and it is used specifically for the internet purchases.  I don't know what this card is called, but they do exist, as I enquired about them.

Thanks for the info I'll have to look into that...I've never heard of it.  My Aunt works in a bank so I'll ask her if she knows anything about it.  I have a debit card but it's not supported by the network over there, so the stupid thing keeps asking for my expiry date.my card doesn't expire.  I ahd the last one about 8 years and the magnetic strip finally just wore out and they gave me a new one in about 2 minutes

It's probably too simplistic but if the expiry date is the only problem (and it probably isn't) have you tried picking one from their lists ?

Unfortunately other users have reported similar problems with some international credit cards not being recognised

didn't even notice that option...I just saw where it asked for expiry and figured there was no hope.  I'll try that.  Do you know what the other people did and were they successful?? Thanks

I am also in Ontario....just about every major town has an LDS centre like Kingston, Oshawa, Barrie etc.  You can go there and they will order the index film for you for $5.00 and you can leave it there for a couple of weeks to search and then order the cert from the record office.  Unfortunately you can't use a canadian debit card on SP only Visa, Mastercard or AM.  There are alot of sites such as Ayrshire roots that you can get info from without using SP until you confirm your info.  Don't mean to sound preachy but you really can get alot of info from LDS centre for those of us who are first generation canadian its a challenge.
