Factory Workers in Cotton Factories in Manchester 1818-19 - Link
« on: Friday 27 October 06 08:45 BST (UK) »

This looks a useful website as it provides information on 8225 persons working in 21 cotton factories near Manchester, as well as in two factories in York. I'm having problems finding the names though. I did a "search rootschat" to see if there were any messages referring to this site and drew a blank. Could some kind soul offer suggestions where people who might be interested in the details of the men, women and children who worked in the factories listed could get more information? Would they be in the National Archives or The House of Lords Record Office?

Hi Chris

The two factories in York were in fact quite close to Manchester.  Slaithwaite and Marsden are small towns between Huddersfield and Manchester.  In Yorkshire but 'no but a cock stride away' from Manchester.

Great site Christopher, good for trying to hunt early Irish in Manchester too, suggest you post this too on the Ireland general site if that is possible ? It looks as if it covered many Irish names as well as Mancunians.

Took a long time to extract relevant names but I have just finished searching and extracting to try and match with the 1841 census.

Thank you again,
Pat

Hi Christopher.

Thank you!  A brilliant link!

By the  way, noone's answered the question.

I'm sure you know by now, but in case anyone else wonders,

to get the names, just click on "dataset" right at the start of the prose.

Thank you again!

Hi Christopher,

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You have given me extra info to confirm part of my Tree from Yorkshire

And also to  BOB, for explaining why my Shaw family are on 1841 Census as in Slaithwaite/Yks  and 1861 in Ashton/Lancs- just a stone throw away !!!
