Hi
I've had a look at the fiche and it is4/9/08 - I can see how it could have been mistranscribed as the other date. The Sept is on a fold and could have been seen as a 4, the 8 is written sideways and differs from the first 8 - but a check of the dates either side confirm it is 1808.
There is also a Richard Denmead born to William and Rachel, baptism 12/5/11 and.....20/1/05 William son of William and Sarah Denmead
There were a couple of Denmeads christened around 1870's but I couldn't see William.
Kingston Seymour is only a mile or two away from Clevedon. If you want pics I'd be happy to oblige (just off to Clevedon this afternoon in fact, to watch football)
Cheers Ian
Cheers Ian

Ian, Many thanks for the information. What is the significance of the William son of William and Sarah Denmead baptised 20/1/1805. Does this mean that Rachel was the second wife of William Denmead the first being the above Sarah?? Regards Brian

Ian, With regard to my last reply. The IGI has a William Denmeade marrying Sarah Kenkett 24th Oct 1795. Is it possible to check if the marriage between William and Rachel indicates that hewas a widow at the time of the marriage 8th Aug 1807 and is there the burial of a Sarah DEnmead between 20/1/1805 and 8 Aug 1807.
Don't feel under any obligation to follow this up. Regards Brian

Hi
The fiche I was looking at was headed 'General 1740-1812' (as opposed to separate for baptisms, marriages & burials) and I couldn't see anything but Baptisms on there.
It may be that the matches and dispatches were done at Clevedon, I'll have a look next time I'm in't library.
Ian

Hi Ian, I have just received through the post a copy of the second marriage certificate for John Bevan. His second marriage took place in October 1853 and his fathers name is John Bevan (deceased) a Farm Labourer.
So we have at least proved that the son's and fathers name matches the baptism of John Bevan in 1809.
John Bevan the son signs with an X in the marriage certificate which shows he and probably his father couldn't spell Bevan and consequently Beaven in the baptism could be correct. Regards Brian
