Hi celtic_hobo,

What denomination were the Dunnes and Smyths?

Thanks to the From Ireland website of Dr Jane Lyons of Dublin you can click here to read a description of Carrickmacross from Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, 1837. I'm not certain if the estate where William worked is mentioned. It's likely that he attended Church in the area. If the estate was a large one there may be records for that estate.

Hello celtic_hobo,

The Carrickmacross website contains the names of the Churches http://tiny.cc/2OtZa

Click for an article about the Shirley estate, dignitaries of Co. Monaghan listed in Thom's Irish Almanac and Official Directory for the Year 1862 and pictures of Magheross Church
and St Joseph's
