A rough guide to Basford & Basford Registration District

Hi

There often is confusion for people not local to Nottingham between Basford registration district and the parish of Basford, both of which are totally seperate. I wrote this answer in response to another Rootschatter but thought it may be of general use.[b][/b]

Basford register office covers a huge number of the parishes which lie in the county of Nottinghamshire but are geographically closest to the City of Nottingham.

To make this easy:

-Take a map of Nottinghamshire
-home in on the bottom quarter forget the rest
-a very small section in the middle is either Nottingham or Radford registration districts both cover the City area
-The rest of this bottom quarter covers the South part of Nottingham County
-The right hand strip is Bingham register office
- The very bottom strip is Loughborough
- all the rest is Basford register office

This is a rough guide. Just to confuse everyone there is a parish in Nottingham City called Basford. This comes under Nottingham register office and is nothing to do with the Basford register office which covers the County.

I work there and yes it is confusing you should try explaining it to other people on the phone who do not live in the area.  As a matter of interest we only conduct Marriages here and do not Register Births and Deaths ( these are done at our sub districts)  because we are actually  physically situated in Nottingham Registration area. Grin
