Hi Spanish Eyes
Don't know if this helps you any but there is a family of Sabeston's, father John,age 32 /Occupation -Sailor Straits,wife Martha Johnston, age 26,daughter Martha age 8, sons John age 6,Peter age 5 and daughter Eliz age 1 residing in Stromness in census of 1821. Living next door are the following family:
Henry Creelman age 46 ,Occupation Pensioner, his wife Margaret Heddle age 28, Children - Mary age 9,Margaret age 7,Ann age 6,Eliz age 4 and William age 1.

Margaret Sabiston widow of John Sabiston,seaman died 13 Feb 1891 age 76 in Stromness. Parents were Henry Creelman,soldier,deceased and Margaret Creelman ms Heddle deceased. Informant was Helen Sabiston daughter.

It is interesting that for the children of John and Martha I have no Martha but I do have:
John b Aug 13, 1814
Peter b June 9, 1816
Betsy b Nov 21, 1819
Joseph b Aug 20, 1821
William b Aug 25, 1826
Sarah b Sept 1, 1829
Helen b Aug 18, 1832
I am sure this is the same family as the parents and some children match. I wonder if Martha died young and was not mentioned in the list I have?
Or maybe Martha is Betsey?
Gets confusing doesn't it......
Thanks for the death date for Margaret I wonder if John's death date is around?
Any idea where I send for marriage certificates for Orkney?

Hi my name is Shirley McMullen and my grandfather is Peter Elmer Sabiston. My mother, (Mary Viola Mae Sabiston) was his oldest Daughter. The picture you have in your display shocked me, I couldn't believe I was looking at him on the internet. I assume the other two in the picture are his father, and grandfather; my great grandfather and great great grandfather. My grampa (Peter Sabiston) lived with us for almost 10 years prior to his death. Write me back and we can talk. I have been looking for information about John McDonald and his Wife Mary (Buck) McDonald (nee Flett) for years. Do you have information or pictures? I am so excited to have a chance to find more about my family. My mom, passed December 27, 2005 and my mom's sister Verna, passed in March'06. There are still 6 siblings living along with a half brother and half sister. There were 8 children by Peter Sabiston with Ingabord Natalia Olson, and then he had two more children with another woman, and one other child with Kathleen Barnett. Interesting to find out who you are as we are related.

Hello cousin Shirley and welcome to Roots Chat. The picture you are looking at is as it says; John Sabiston, James Sabiston and Peter Elmer Sabiston.
That is your grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.
I have not been able to locate any pictures of John McDonald and Mary (Buck) McDonald but I have managed to locate a picture possibly of George Flett and Charlette Tourangeau although it is not of very good condition. I am waiting for verification as to whether it is them.
Your sister Gail and brother Tom have copies of John and Margaret and James and Mary's pictures.

I was just browsing for some Sabiston info and came across your query of a few years ago. I just signed on to the trial subscription of this to try it out and provide you with some info that may be of assistance. There was a James McKay Sabiston born in 1836 (don't have the info with me right now but it was in the 1830's) who left Orkney for Canada.

Yes. James came to Canada with the Hudson's Bay. Managed a trade post in Savona (near Kamloops). Then, it seems, went to Nanaimo BC. Still a few lost links between generations.

There is a Sabiston Lake near Savona that was more than likely named after him. There were a few James around the same as John and Peter.
The first bunch that came over went to North Carolina and a few went to Victoria, BC and the rest to Manitoba. The second bunch including our John came over next and started his family in Manitoba eventually settling in Saskatchewan.
There were a few James Sabiston's in BC....... check this website below.

Just joined RootsChat and saw your postings. I'm currently working on the Sabiston side of my family. I've gone through various sites and created a spreadsheet of every Sabiston that I could find listed ... and there's a lot of them. Now I'm trying to connect the dots and determine relationships between all the individuals, looking for links into my know relatives which I have traced back to ~1627 in Birsay, Orkney.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm just not sure where to begin.
