my father worked at this hosp in the fiftys there was a pub on the same road can any one help me name it  and tell me is the hosp still there im doing family history  and need street names  i think its near a station as i went once with my  mum but that was many years ago  thanks im will be really greatfull  miss p

not sure -but think there is a pub called the Towers too
if you put pubs local to that post code into a search engine you should find what you are looking for

GIPSY LANE.

Then there was a Public Hose Corner Huntington Road
But can’t remember the name…Sorry 

Then you go through a VERY LOW Railway bridge.

“ Gipsy Lane Working Mans Club.”
Corner of Oliver Road.

Then….
“ Wyvern Arms “ Barkby Road. / Catherine Street. / Gipsy Lane Corner

Then….
“ Gipsy Road Hotel “ Harrison Road./ Gipsy Road.

Sorry I don't recall a Public Hose " Towers "
Unless it was part of
" The Leicester Brewing & Malting Co. Ltd. "
Humberstone Lodge, Gipsy Lane

Railway Stations close to Towers Hospital. ?

Uppingham Road. St. Barnabas Road / Uppingham Road (G.N.Railways  )
Only a small station……
Closest Public House to this was the "The Uppingham Pub "
next to Sparrow Park

Belgrave Road Station. Main Terminus for G.N.R…….

London Road. Main Station for L.M.S 
Great Central Station. Main Station for Great. Central. Northern Railway.

When I worked at the Towers ( Catering) back in the 60’s
We went to “ The Salutation” Corner of Victoria Road East / The Portway

hi and thanks so much you both have help me so much going to print out all details for my family history page i can remember a little about  lecis in 60s but that was along time ago lol im really greatfull to you my sister tells me the pub i was looking for was on the road leading down to the towers dad was stoping there so i think it was a kind of b-b  cheers miss p

mike forgot to say my dad was the stoker at towers from 1953 to 56 mum and dad were apart at the time but got back together 56 and we still visited his friends at this pub well in to 60s   thank u for your help we always came by train from nottm so think it would be from midland sta to main lecis station            thanks again miss p

I know this is an old thread!! just found it tho.

My gt aunt Dorothy Taylor was matron at the Towers for many years and her daughter Jean was a sister.

Did you know them Mike- when you worked there?

I used to hear all sorts of stories about the place when I was a young girl.

my great grandfather died at the towers hospital in 1965 .. its still there today ... all the pubs you mentioned mike bought back many memories .. had to drag my grandfather out of the Salutation manyt imes .. also remember ther was a pub called the Northern he used to go to somewhere around the area .
