Hi Jackeroo
Have you got any information on them after 1824? For example any children and their names in birth order, the 1841 and later censuses, etc. These would all help to identify him.
A Scottish death certificate, if 1855 or later, would give information on his parents.

Hi again
Their emigration makes it a wee bit more difficult. Do you have any of their childrens' names?

Sorry - I didn't realise that you didn't know that Strath is an Isle of Skye parish. It's the area in the North East part of the island:

I'll have a look for a baptism for you. Where they established church/protestant?

Hi
I've had a good look and the only Roderick Maclean that I can find was baptised 29 August 1804, Bracadale (a neighbouring parish to Strath). Parents were Kenneth Maclean and Mary MacKenzie.

Hello Jackeroo/Gadget,
Following on from Gadget's find there is also a 1803 birth in Bracadale for a Rory MacLean with parents John and Mary. Rory is short for Roderick.

Showing on IGI, the children to Roderick and Ann (Nancy) Kinghorn:
1. FARQUHAR MAC LEAN Christening: 15 JUN 1825 Strath, Inverness, Scotland...........submitted entry 2. JOHN MAC LEAN Birth: 04 JUN 1827/ Christening: 13 JUN 1827 Strath, Inverness, Scotland.........submitted entry 3. WILLIAM MAC LEAN Birth: 19 APR 1831/ Christening: 09 MAY 1831 Strath, Inverness, Scotland...........actual extract 4. MARY MCLEAN Birth: 11 MAY 1833/ Christening: 12 OCT 1833 Strath, Inverness, Scotland..........actual extract 5. ABRAHAM MAC LEAN Birth: 07 JAN 1836/ Christening: 09 FEB 1836 Strath, Inverness, Scotland...........submitted entry
Their marriage, a submitted entry on 11 JUN 1824 Strath, Inverness, Scotland.
If Ann Kinghorn's father was Abraham, we have the choice of Farquhar (first born son), John and William born before Abraham as possibilites for Roderick. Similarly, if Ann's mother was Margaret, there is also a Mary b. 1833 as a possiblity for Roderick.
These are a combination of submitted entries and actual extracts from the OPRs for the births/christenings, so verification as always would be good.
Regards,
Monica

Do you still want info on Roderick McLean? The McLeans and Kinghorns moved to the Orange/Bathurst area of NSW. Abraham (son of Roderick & Ann) married Harriet Clarinda Coomber in Bathurst in 1858 and had 14 children - a Farquhar is my great grandfather.

Lovely to hear from another 'cousin'.
Perhaps you could drop me a personal email with your phone number and we could have a chat as we are both in Australia. Jackaroo and I have met and exchanged information on the McLeans/Kinghorns. Would love to know if you have more.... Diana
