I am trying to trace the birth of my gg gfather Thomas Newton. The 1871 census gives his birth place as Forest Hill, with father Thomas NEWTON and mother Mary (Unknown), which is consistent with the area (Sydenham/Forest Hill) where subsequent generations lived. Usual online sources haven't thrown up any likely candidates, and the parents are also shy in 1861.
Help from anyone with Newton connections, or access to local records for this location would be much appreciated.
Regards, Paul

Hi Paul
When/where were the parents born according to the 1871 census? Were there any other children? Perhaps somebody just may be able to locate them with some further knowledge of the family

Hi, The parents are: Thomas Newton, 49 from Lincolnshire (no place given) and Mary Newton, 50 from Chelsea, Middlesex. No other children in 1871. Frustratingly, there's no sign of a likely marriage either, so I'm counting on Thomas Jr to give me a lead. Hope that helps someone, Regards, Paul
