If you have old photographs of your Hull connections which give details of the photographer, I would like to hear about them. I'm hoping to trace some of the early photographers and studios.
Hi Suttontrust I have a couple of Girl Guide photos that were taken about 1924 by W.H.Duncan of 15 Anlaby Road, Hull. Do you know if the studios still exist? Do you know how I would get copyright permission to reproduce it? Many thanks tradguide

Does anyone recognise this photograph? I think it is either Cordellia Birks or Emily Stamp/Fairbotham (my gt.gt. grandma and gt. grandma respectively) On the back of the photograph is this info:
South Myton Studio, L. Holzheimer Photographic Artist 135, Porter Street, Hull.

If you go to Hull CC website
www.hullcc.gov.uk/
scroll down to Family History (on the left hand side of the Home page), click on Family History and you will see what is available. It includes photographs. There are some old photographs of Hessle Road on there.
I have a couple of photos of Hessle Road, but I've just got a new laptop and all the photographs have just been copied over as "Hull photographs", so it means going through them and re-naming them individually.

We're interested in your Hull photographers stream as my grandfather, Paul Christian Friswold, was a photographer from about 1903, when he moved from Liverpool, until his death in 1917. He lived in Crowle Street, near the docks, and was listed as a marine journeyman photographer in the 1911 trade directory. According to my mother, who is still alive at 97, he went on ships in the dock and took photos of the crew and passengers. We assumed that, as he was Norwegian, he made use of his Scandinavian languages to be able to get business with the trans-North Sea shipping, but there may have been other local ships as well in his portfolio.
If anyone has anything by him I would love to see it - we only have a few of his prints passed down and we do not have a single photograph of him!
Geoff Lambert.
