'Scottish Link' at FRC
« on: Saturday 13 November 04 08:31 GMT (UK) »

Hi, I hope someone can help with some information.  I read somewhere that at the FRC there is a 'Scottish Link' area which has an in house computer link to the Scottish GRO records in Edinburgh.  Can anyone tell me if the information obtainable is up to the present day (or nearish).  i.e. without the restrictions regarding births in the last 100 years, marriages in the last x years etc. which are in place on the Scotlandpeople website.  I am interested in births marriages and deaths 1900 - 1976 but do not have enough dates to make sending off for a cert to GROS a possibility.

Also, I believe there is a charge to use this service - does anyone know how much

Thanks very much

Hi ec

Try Scotlands People at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

You can buy credits for £6 which allows you 30 'page credits'.

Hope it helps you.

No problem - I am obviously not as far advanced with my family history as everyone else - I'm stuck in the 1900s !

Surpisingly (or perhaps not) its more difficult post 1901 as the census information is not available after that.  Hope you get back to the 19th Century as soon as possible!  Grin

Hi ec,

I've been trying to find the answer for you without success.

I'd recommend giving them a call or email.

Telephone: 020 8392 5300
E-mail: frc@nationalarchives.gov.uk

I'm not sure of the price - I think it is an hourly or half hourly charge.

If it links in to the network in Edinburgh then you should get access to images to more recent registrations.  I'm not sure of the exact year but I have notes from online births in the 1950's.  It switches to fiche after a certain time and these are only available in Edinburgh.

Sorry it isn't a precise answer.  I definitely phone them or email.

Best of luck,
Pam
