Death certificate 1855
« on: Saturday 13 November 04 09:23 UTC (UK) »

I have a death certificate for a Peter Parkinson died 22 November 1855 aged 33 (Paralysis 12 months) died Union House, Mill Road Cambridge. Informant was a Lucy Haysom (not a known relation). Does any one know  what the Union House Mill Road was - I'm guessing it was a work house. If so does anyone have access to admission records etc. for this establishment so I can obtain further details of Peter. I am wondering if Peter is the son of my 3xgrat grandfather Allen Parkinson of Hauxton.
Was Union House a hospital for the poor?

Any information appreciated.

Hi Colin,

Welcome to RootsChat,

Use this link to take you to an interesting site about workshouses, this being the page of the site for the Cambridge one.  The location of records is also given.

In my experience, many union infirmary/hospital buildings are still at the heart of a lot of hospitals, unless they've been demolished or are new.  All workhouses usually had an infirmary attached to them.
