Anyone heard of Uriah Primer?
« on: Friday 10 November 06 15:18 GMT (UK) »

This man is driving me mad.  I have him as a character witness on a declaration document dated in 1848, Southampton.  I can't find him anywhere...not a trace.  So I'm unsure if he was a friend of the family (Hellyer's of Hound/Netley & Southampton) or if he was a local solicitor or something.
If anyone knows of him, please enlighten me!!!

 Smiley just had a look through Hound in 41. Had you noticed there were quite a few Primmer families living alongside your Hellyers. Maybe Uriah just had one of the 'M's missed off. Huh

Hiya Cheryl,

The handwriting & his signature is very clear...just for a change!!!  I'll look again at the 1841.  I do have the images & earlier I found an entry on here;

http://www.plimsoll.org/Southampton/streetdirectories/directory1836/default.asp#2

That shows some entries in the early part of the directory for coaches, arranged by, I think it was (sorry, had some wine since I looked) from a pub in Hamble for  a comapny called ? & Primmer...bit close to home to ignore.

Thanks for getting back to me.

 I was just looking through some marriages for the very early 1800's for Primers but nothing , though its funny that some of them are down for living Holy Road(Holy Rhood) Southampton and then other marriages for Primmers are also down for Holy Road as well. Maybe getting a little closer.

Hello Cheryle

Thanks for looking for me.  I've had a look at the 1841 for Hound & I see what you mean about the PRIMMER family living close to my HELLYER's.  I still can't find any trace of a Uriah PRIMER or PRIMMER.  I think I'll put him down to being a family friend.

The document was to clarify family relationships to enable money & property to be released after a death...so maybe he lied about who he was to get a back hander!!!  Actually, the document has been a God send as it confirmed all of my research.

Oh well...

Debbie
