Royal Berkshire Hospital records
« on: Thursday 09 November 06 18:00 GMT (UK) »

I understand that there are historical records for the hospital which reside in the Berkshire Medical Heritage Centre at the hospital, Reading.  The Centre is run by volunteers.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever been there, and what you found.
I am hoping there might be some records related to patients, 1840 onwards, especially 1841, where I have an ancestor whom I believe is a patient.
Wondered if they had admissions lists, visitors books, etc., and, if so, what years.  I have not found any way to contact them by email, and it is expensive to send SSAEs overseas, so any of your experiences would be helpful.
Thanks!

No, I had not seen this;  thank you very much;  it is quite informative, if dated, and gives me hope!
I had seen another, more recent website, which was less informative.

No harm in trying, I suppose.  I just figured the fact that the contact person is a volunteer and did not offer her email address probably would mean she didn't have time for a lot of inquiries of this sort.

All the volunteers I have come across from the BMHC are male - but,  I have only met two of them.

So, now we know there are at least 3 of them!  The more the merrier, in terms of likelihood of getting some info.
