I love that nickname "Lollie", and it's interesting that they asked for the Lisbon papers to pick up the announcement.  They must still have had friends in Portugal

Yes, the family had connections in Togal, Portugal. I have not been able to find a link for Portuguese births.  Sad
Father Charles had four other children, all born in Portugal between 1872 & 1885. Wink

Charles was a paper miller. There is a museum of the Portuguese paper industry near Porto http://www.rootschat.com/links/02c1/. It might be worth contacting them to see if they have any record of him in their archives.

There is a paper factory at Tojal ( "Fapajal" or  Fábrica Papel Tojal, Lda)
http://www.portugalvirtual.pt/0/0145dat1.html

Also there is a Mexico connection to follow up. Per the 1901 census  daughter Caroline was born there circa 1866/7. Can't make out the place name though
- worth posting in the common room?

In 1871 Charles Snook was in Russia, I have no idea what he was doing there. Also he was the manager of the paper mill in Woking. (now Old Woking)

I had a go at the Mexico connection last year, but had no luck Cry

I thought that it was San Dugh OR Sandugh  Undecided  As you say, the spelling is not readable Roll Eyes

Thank you for the Portuguese links, I was thinking of contacting the Portuguese Embassy for help. Smiley
