Hi Bedfordshire boy All I got was a scan of the page containing their two names (plus a few others). Only portrait size not landscape so don't know if witnesses were named. Thanks for your interest. Jan
So it looks as if Phillis was not from Bedfordshire as you all suggested So now I start again looking for Phillis elsewhere. Maybe in surrounding counties?? I really do appreciate all the help you guys have given me in the past and I'm determined to find this lady!! Regards Jan
I just got notified that this was completed and remembered the thread, and looked through it again... (was wondering if you had done so also? )... I don't remember being notified when the above was mentioned in a reply...as I would have begged to differ. Seems to me bedfordshire boy & I were trying to get you to look elsewhere throughout.

but as both you and David said it's a long way from Durham to Bedfordshire
I NEVER said it was a long way between the two as we have people moving right across Canada all the time...The early settlers in red river carts, on horseback, walking......through bogs and across rivers...No hotels, only camps ....and I also stated that this country is "SEVERAL" times as wide as yours...so why would distance be a problem in my mind...it isn't ever!
One last bit of lateral thinking...perhaps if you might consider -Caroline's first husband propably died "elsewhere"... -Abraham Draper might have met the widow and her daughter "elsewhere" and brought them back to Houghton Conquest with him... note that Caroline was remarried before Phillis note that forenames & surnames are found in different spellings all the time
