Miles Hammett married Elizabeth Pelley in 1839 in Portsmouth. Can anyone see them in the 1841 census?

Morning Bob, If this were my family l would now be leaning towards the fact that Miles had Devon connections for a birth place. When going through the Wales census last night i noticed there were many early settlers from Devon in Wales through the 41 and so on. Untill your post i had not come across the name Phillis or Miles so l found them quite unusual but therefore easy to track. There is through the years a small number of people where the name Phillis or Miles and Thomas runs through the families and they are from Appledore Devon. I expect you have already found most of them in your search but maybe didnt realize you may have any connection with them at that time.
This is a couple of instances... there are quite a few in Wales with Devon origins though.
RG11/ 5265 Newport Wales 1881
Phillis Hammett b 1817 Appledore Devon living with daughter Phillis and son in law and all their children
RG9 1503 1861 Bideford Devon
Jane Hammett H M 38 Mariners wife Tawstock Devon Thomas Hammett son 10 Appledore Devon Miles Hammett son 8 Appledore Devon
This family above could even be the new family of Miles Hammett that you are looking for. I tried everything i could think of last night but found no death registered for him. I am sure that someone said that divorce was pretty non existant in 1840's so maybe they just split for some reason. And if Miles was a sailor it will hopefully state on Phillis b 1841 or William's birth certificate, and then maybe you can start to tie up up some of these many loose ends i have created for you. Sorry! I think the only way forward now is the dreaded cost of the Marriage and birth certs for Phillis and William the children....may shed some light on what the elusive Mr Miles Hammett was up to......
very best wishes cheryle

Thanks for all your help.
Where do I start. My primary search was for a Thomas Stanlake. In 1851 his son, also Thomas, lived with his mother, Elizabeth, in Portsea. He was 4 years of age. His father's occupation was given as 'carpenter R Navy but was not present. HO107/1659 folio 634 page 14. Also at this address was Phillis Hammett, 10, and William Hammett, 8. In 1845 Thomas Stanlake married Elizabeth Hammett. Maybe the Stanlakes, Hammetts and Pelleys were all 'sea' folk which may account for the fathers' absence and the locations of the families. Thomas, Jnr. also went to sea as an engineer in the RN. A number of Stanlake's were married in the Portsea area in the 1840's but I have not been able to locate them in the 1841 census. There is a link somewhere between the Stanlakes Pelleys and Hammetts, AND Devon, Wales and Portsea. Where I go next I have not a clue.
