Hi All I have William Scopes born 1731 and married Sarah Bolderge in 1760 in the Branford area in my tree. I know they had William born Sept 1760 and John born Oct 1761. I cannot find any more off spring, but would like to be certain there were no more additions to the family. regards Janet

Hi Janet,
I presume you are talking about Bramford on the river Gipping just outside of the county town of Ipswich?
The parish records are available for St Mary's from 1553-1900 at the SRO and are filmed, so you may be able to have a look up on your behalf.

My apologies for being so 'woolly headed'
I am reading through lots of Annual Reports from Parishes all over Suffolk at the moment.
The PRs have been filmed, so even if you are not in Suffolk and are not able to access the SRO, you can request a look up on the 'look up requests' pages of this web site. Someone may have copies of the fiche at home, or you may be lucky that someone has ordered them to their local LDS centre (or you can order them to your local LDS centre to check yourself). Or you may find that a Rootschatter is going along to the SRO and is willing to check for you.
A few Suffolk Parishes have still not received permission for filming and are difficult to access outside of the county - I was just letting you know there were no such problems with these ones
I think I had better stop - I am now rambling . . . . . .

Do you have an LDS centre near to you?
I am always half-afraid to pose this question to researchers in places like Australia - they usually say, there is one 200 miles away!

sorry to be so stupid but not really sure what LDS stands for. I live close to Lincoln and we do have archives there and I have used them when first starting my research on the BMD fiche readers, but I dont think they keep anything else other than Lincolnshire based material regards janet

Latter Day Saints
The church of the Latter Day Saints is more commonly referred to as The Mormons.
There are often Research Centres attached to their churches.
We have one in Ipswich and that is great for when I need to check any of my Berkshire research. I am right here in Suffolk and can access two of the SROs easily, however, if I need information from outside of the county it's off to the LDS Centre.
Their web site is http://www.familysearch.org/
Where you will find lots of information to help you research your ancestors and a list of centres worldwide.
I can remember walking through a backstreet in a little French town a couple of years ago and on passing a lovely old building I noticed lots of people hunched over fiche readers. It was an LDS centre.
All best wishes, SM ...

many thanks, yes there is one in Lincoln but have not used it yet I have aways though of them as Mormon so LDS was not familiar to me and of course the familysearch website is one I use a lot. Senior moment I think. I am sure seeing people in France working so hard must have been a wonderful feeling but I hope they also had a chance to enjoy the history around them Thank you for being so patient with me regards Janet

Janet, you're welcome
Give it a little longer and you will be amazed at how much you know, you will soon pick it all up. I began a long tme ago. The nice thing with this hobby is you do not have to sign up to a regular class. You can pick it up and put it down to fit in with family, work and committments. The ancestors aren't going anywhere, they are just waiting to be found - and as for those brick walls - they just stand firm
SM ... Amazing amount of rain down here in Suffolk today !

Thank you.SM I started only 5 years ago from almost nothing. So to be back as far as mid 1700 and before in some areas I feel I havnt done so bad. It is not qiute so easy now that I have exhausted all the census and having to work a little harder at finding some of my decendants. It really is like a jigzaw, when a piece fits many more fall into place. It is as you say a wonderful hobby. I have learnt so much about our history, I am really hooked. regards Janet
