Hi Keith, Irene here!! When you are wandering around when the wind drops can you keep and eye out for Hunt/Cox/Cook/Bloore for me please? I had a look when I was there in 1998 but it was so overgrown we could hardly get in - is it any better now?
Cheers, Irene

Hi Irene,
Fancy meeting you here!!!
Will see what I can find - I think it hasn't been touched since 1898
If the temp got to 30C I would be there now!!
Never got over 5C today and a bitter wind - don't know about wind chill factors - all new to me - but it felt like minus 20C!!
Now who else wanted me crawling on my hands and knees??!!
Cheers

Hi Jane,
You can never do anything wrong on this site - as you will find out!!!
I presume you have found the rest of the family?
. MARY ANNE ELLIOTT - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 16 MAY 1841 Whitchurch, Shropshire, England 2. HENRY ELLIOTT - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 17 SEP 1843 Whitchurch, Shropshire, England 3. WILLIAM ELLIOT - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 20 OCT 1831 Whitchurch, Shropshire, England 4. ELLEN ELLIOTT - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 21 JUL 1833 Whitchurch, Shropshire, England
Father Henry Elliott - Mother Anne
It looks from that information that they were still in Whitchurch in 1841 - the library has the 1841 census - so I will see what I can find out for you - asking to much if you know the name of the farm or area?
Cheers
Keith

Thanks for the info!!!
I didn't know the rest of the family just Ellen and Henry.
The farm was Alport farm Claypit Street, it may not be connected but I know that at one time (1881 census) it was in Elliot hands.
Thank you for siblings info do you know any on Henry's wife?
Hope I am not pushing it!!
Regards Jane

Hi Jane,
Another little tip I picked up - go to the page you have found - click on the batch number at the bottom - on the next page put in the name [elliot] with the parents name - search and it comes up with all Elliotts with those parents -simple when you know how!!
I live 1/2 miles from Claypit St - if you go to this site you will find an old map of the area - see if you can find YOUR farm. http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
Will see what else I can find from the library - how do you know they moved in 1855?
Cheers

Hi Keith
In 1859 Ellen married Henry Mcbride in Ancoats Manchester, but they already had two children by then, on 1861 census shows harriet born 1855, details also on LDS and Henry born 1857.
I just thought it might be easier to trace Ellen's background as Henry snr was born in Ireland and I've drawn a blank there.
As I mentioned before the farm might be a complete red herring, but I have no record ie census of the family in Whitchurch just Manchester.
Your help is appreciated.
Regards Jane. Going to have a look on the map now!!

Hi Jane,
Had a look through the 1841 census at the library - found Claypit St - no sign of the farm - spent a good hour looking at the fisches until I came across the following 2 quite near each other.
Grindley Brook, Whitchurch Henry Elliott - 30 - Joyner[their spelling!!] No [to born in county] Ann " 25 N William " 9 Y Mary " 1 month Y
Oxford Cariage??? Whitchurch
Thomas Elliott 30 Check Factor[ ] No Mary " 20 No
Last one was not too clear on 903/11-14 fisch
Couldn't find Ellen, wonder if with grandparents - did not have time to look through all local villiages - will try again.
Not sure if first one is yours - but looks similar!! Hope it helps - not hinders!!
Cheers

HI Keith
Just going to squeeze you for a little bit more info!!!
I think the Elliot family I am looking for is the the one at Grindley Brook, I just want to know is that a district of Whitchurch or just the name of the path/route the canal follows.
If it is a district would you know of a central church where baptism etc would have been held. I notice on the IGI records it doesn't give the location of the baptism. At least when Ellen had kids of her own she picked the biggest church she could find, Manchester Cathedral. I went once as a kid if I'd known my Great great grandmother had some of her children baptised there I might have taken a bit more notice!!
Regards Jane
