Hi Sue,
Glad you thought of me to solve your problems! Why did you think of me!!
Sorry
Right - so we presume that unless all 3 were fibbing - their father was George - who stands a fair chance of being alive in 1841?
Don't suppose mother ever baby sat at census time - no ahh well - that's her out!
So it might help if I took at look at the 1841 Whitchurch census to see how many Allens there are?
And here was me thinking it was only ladies who lied about there ages - what was William doing with an age span of 12 years - did he take an older bride? Maybe George moved to Whitchurch from Nottingham after 1833 - had 2 kids and then left - hopefully after the 1841 census.
Will have a look in the library next week to see what I can find.
Cheers
Keith

P.S.
No one knows where Whitchurch is - Cheshire or Shropshire - depends on if it's raining!!

Hi Sue,
After spending 2 hours looking at a fische(?) screen I thought I deserved a rest - so have come and sat in front of a computer screen instead
Right - GOOD News - and not so good news
I may have found your family - well I have found the correct names and ages! BUT not together - anyway here goes:
Hollins Lane - Tilstock (hamlet outside of Whitchurch) William Allen - 15 - Ap. - N (not born in county!) at the home of Thomas Cook - 35 - Farmer, together with Mary - 35 - and Holling - 11 - also Gillian Hamlett - 20 - F S (farm servant?) - all born in county (William didn't marry a Gillian by any remote chance?)
There were 4 other "Allen" families which I made a note of - but not the correct names - you can have them if you want. (William aged 6 - father William etc)
I then went right through the census and the last building was the "House of Industry" (better known as the work house!!) Robert Allen - 75 - Shoemaker - Y George Allen - 55 - Ag Lab - N Sarah Allen - 10 - N
These names were NOT together - I noticed all the children were written down together - Adults first. So we have 3 out of 4 of your family - but is it a family. Maybe - the 15 year old William could earn his keep and so was sent to live on a farm - the other 2 could not and so were in the work house! But that is only my imagination working overtime - again!!
I also had a look at the baptisms for Whitchurch from 1823 (don't trust your lot!) to 1831 and no William!! (or any Allens for that matter!!)
So I am really not sure if I have been any help - I could make a good case for them being your "lot" but no proof - have you John's birth details/certificate - anything on their mother?
Cheers
Keith

Hi Sue,
These are the other Allens that I found in the 1841 census at the library
Yardington - now part of Whitchurch William Allen - 39 - Ag Lab - No Ellen " 36 William 6 Orlando 1 Elizabeth 8
Benjamin Allen - 30 - Joiner Ann 30 Thomas 3 Ann 1 Sarah 2 months
Watergate St, Whitchurch Charles Allen - 30 - Butcher Ann - 30 William - 7 Charles - 5 Mary 3 Ellinor 11 months
Ellinor Allen - 75 John - 30 - Butcher
All born in the county except where stated Remember ages over 15 are rounded down.
Just wondering why you have discounted the William I found - was it because of where he was born?
Cheers

Hi Keith, Hope you can help.
In the 1861 census at Little Common, St Martin, Shropshire John Evans age 25, Labourer on coal bank, born Shropshire Witchurch and his wife Ellen age 19, born Shropshire Ellesmere I am looking for a marriage for these two. Could you look to see if John Evans born circa 1836 is anywhere there? Birth, christening, marriage or any record Thanks Dianne

Hi Dianne,
The marriage is usually in the parish of the wife (Ellesmere) or where they are living.
Had a quick look on the 1851 census - there are 3 John Evans all born at the right time - all living as servants in the local area - one with a 14 year old Samuel Evans (his brother??)
I think the only thing I may find is his birth details in 1836 - but expect/know there will be more than one John Evans - any idea of his parents?
Any reason to think his marriage would have been in Whitchurch?
Cheers

Hi Sharon,
Good news - bad news!!
John Webster parents - Thomas & Mary - address Bargats?? - Whitchurch - Shoe Maker - date correct
Could not find the other 2 things - was the dates correct? They are not that ease to read - typing worse than mine!!
Will have another go if you say they are correct.
Cheers

Hi Tessa,
Sorry I did not get back to you - been a bit poorly - even so I do not have much about people after 1901.
Cheers
