Where Are My Worrall(Warrell) Family Manchester
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 10:11 GMT (UK) »

I have sourced my Worrall Family (various Spellings) from the 1871 Census. Up till the 1901 Census.

But  where are they in previous census?

Peter Worrall  [1850c] appears with a Thomas Worrall  [1846c] as lodgers in Deansgate Area of Manchester in 1871 and after his Marriage in 1873 to Theresa Hurst he appears in all future census with his family right upto his death in 1896.

I know his father is also called Peter Worrall but there is no finding them on the 1841; 1851; 1861 census.

Both Peter and Thomas are born in Manchester.  So where are they in 1861?

What is interesting is that Peter's first child born 1874 is born in Earlstown. However the next child born in 1876 and all other children, born in Manchester.

So obviously they lived in Earllstown,  for a while. Question is was it work that took them to Earlstown [railway developement] Or did they have family in the  area...There is a  Worrall family in the area, atleast one of whom was born in Manchester[a grandchild]?

Does anyone have any idea where my family could have been in the years prior to 1871?

Hi Biko
I have looked through the other 1851 Unfilmed and I found quite a few Worrall's / Warrell but none, other than the one I have already given you, with a Peter in the family.
If you require these others, let me know.

Dave

A big THANK YOU

I am sure that is them. The young Peter put his fathers occupation as Carpenter on his marriage certificate.

And both Thomas and Peter were born in Hulme according to some of the census.

I already had the marriage index for Eliza saved, my instincts on that one were right.

Once again a big THANK YOU, for knocking down that brick wall. You have helped so much.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.............. Grin

Thank You once again Dave.

It hadn't occured to me in my excitement, but now I am trying to get an idea of what part of Hulme they lived in 51, to confirm it is my family. Plus I am still cannot locate them in 1861.

But you have been a great help

We should hold annual awards for people like yourself who are so helpful

Hi Biko,
Looked on a 1900 map of Manchester, but I can't find a Violet St. in Hulme to give an exact location.

Hello Bursy,

I know it as been a long time, but is your offer still open? If so can you look up a Joseph Worrall.

Unfortunately I know very little, other than he is Peter's father, possibly born in Cheshire.

On Peter and Eliza's marriage certificate his occupation is down as 'carter'. I belive he was living Hulme in 1851, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Marjie

Hi

I had a look at 1841 as well but all I could come up with was

Peter Warral 15 and John Ledbetter 15, Bricklayers at West Derby,
born  in county,
but now I lok, it's Childwall on the other heading which you've mentioned.

Delf Lane? Half Lane?

HO/107/511/12

Looking at that I had a Cheshire one for 1861.

I'll have another look if I can find it?

Best wishes

Hi
If you have a look at www.images.manchester.gov.uk
scroll down to "search" and enter Violet Street Hulme.  You will get a photo of nos. 2 - 14 Violet Street.  Not a wonderful picture, but good to have, all the same! Click on the photo to enlarge it, and you can print it.

Hi Dave and all

Now, I've typed this last group up once for 1861, then decided I'd got it wrong - I got the wrong father Peter and thought it wouldn't fit.

I'll try and find them again.

Hi

Got them again.  That'll teach me.  First instinct!

1861
RG9/2888
Hulme
10 Leaf St
Joseph Worrell       M   H     60 Brewer's man              Frodsham Cheshire
Elizabeth   ,,          M  Wife  48    ,,     ,,  'swife            Burnage Lancashire
Ann Welch             un dau   21  Silk winder                 Salford  ,,
Joseph Jackson  ,,  un son   19   mechanical turner       ,,          ,,
Ann Wilkeham gdaughter      7   scholar                      Cheshire   Runcorn.
