Why Cant I find My 3x Uncles Marriage?

Hiya.

I am wondering if any one can help me. For about 6 months, I have been trying to find the marriage for my 3x great Uncle Moses Herbert  to Sarah Owen. I have looked on various websites but havent found anything. Sarah's and Moses' first child was born in 1876 in Woodchurch, Wirral.So i expect they got married around this time.

Any information will be very much apprectiated.

I guess CheshireBMD havent transcribed them - I tried www.familyrelatives.org - allegedly full 1866 - 1920 transcription of GRO Indices and found.

 
Herbert Moses    Chelmsford. Vol 4a P218 Marriage 3Q 1866   
 Herbert Moses    Pontypool. Vol 11a P154 Marriage 2Q 1877   


Not enough credits left to 'match' for the complementary entries ... you could try using the Year, District and Vol/Page to match by searching for Sarah Owen on Ancestry's transcribed or full GRO ...

Hi Marc,

CheshireBMD look to have pretty good coverage for the area you are looking at which would suggest that they were married elsewhere.  Both the marriages newfy found are on freebmd.

The first is Herbert Moses to Maria Felton, Chelmsford - not your man, they are on the 1871 and 1881 census in Chelmsford.

I can't see who the second one married but there is a married Moses Herbert in South Wales (RG11 5303/20 Page 35) who could eliminate him as well.

Have you tried looking through the full index on ancestry?  As he is unmarried with his parents in 1871 it is not a huge amount to look through?

How have you found Sarah's maiden name?  Have you found her in 1871?

Sorry, lots of questions, hopefully may help to turn up the answers!!

Hi Jean. I have got the birth certificate of one of their daughters, so thats how I got her maiden name. I havent found Sarah in 1871. I have had a qucik look at Ancestry , but i will have another look now.
