My Grandfather was John Benjamin Atkins -  born in Portsea in 1870 and died in Portsmouth in 1954.  We seem to have lost the trail soemwhat but what I do know is that in March 1901 he was sailing on the SS Catalonia probably back from the Boer War.  But which regiment he was in I don't know as the 1901 census doesn't giove us that information.

Can you help? Are you researching John Benjamin Atkins of Portsmouth at the end of the 19th century?
