Hi Lynne,
Thank you for the information, I knew there was an Elizabeth c1806 so that really helps and Issac I didn't know about. Much appreciated.
Regards,

Tordiff marriage licences
« Reply #16 on: Tuesday 15 April 08 14:55 BST (UK) »

Hi
I have the diocese of Carlisle marriage licences.  The name Tordiff appears in the 3rd volume (1752-1762) as follows:

25 Feb 1760
Thomas Temple, Gilcrux, single man, yeoman
Mary Wilkinson, Plimland, spinster
bondsman: William Tordiff, Plimland, yeoman
marriage to take place at Plimland

9 Oct 1759
Hodgson Swinborn, Threapland p Turpenhow, bachelor, yeoman
Mary Tordiff, Artelby p Plimland, spinster
bondsman: William Tordiff, Plimland, yeoman
marriage to take place at Turpenhow

29 Nov 1754
Thomas Stubs, Pellathoe p Holm Cultram, bachelor
Ann Tordiff, ditto, maidservant
bondsman: John Bouch, Gill Bank p Holm Cultram, husbandman
marriage to take place at Holm Cultram

22 Sep 1753
William Wilson, Aketon
Elizabeth Hewetson, Carlisle, single woman
bondsman: Joseph Tordiff, Aketon, yeoman
marriage to take place at Aketon or St Cuthbert's Carlisle

I don't know if these are useful to you.  There may be other instances in the earlier volumes.  Let me know if you want me to do a lookup.

regards
Deborah

Hi Deborah,
Thank you very much for the information. I have managed to get a bit further back since my original post. I know that John Tordiff 1808 who married Jane Yerberry was the son of a John Tordiff c1780 don't know which area he was from but he married Elizabeth Pattinson in 1803 at Bowness on Solway. She was born 1781 and baptised 21st Nov 1781 at Bowness. Her parents were John Pattinson and Nancy Barnes I think they married at Aketon 11th April 1779. I don't know anything else about them or if Elizabeth had siblings.
If there was anything about the family or the Tordiff's I would be immensely grateful for any information you could find. This has been a difficult line for me to find. I know that John Tordiff and Elizabeth Pattinson are the right people as the name Pattinson was used as a middle name down through the generations, right through to living relatives.
Thanks again for the help.
Kate.
