Lippett is more popular than the Lippitt spelling but you can see clearly that it is a name that proberly originates from Worcestershire.

In 1881 48 out of over 180 live in Worcestershire followed by 27 in Gloucestershire  and 13 in Devon and Warwickshire, 11 in Wiltshire and 10 in Herefordshire and Durham.

What years are your researching Huh Did you find them in the Census?

Hello Sarah

Your information is facinating, what is your resource?

Our early family members are recorded as "Lippett" with the most recent spelling in our line as "Lippitt."    They have been traced back to abt. 1650 in Marden, spreading out to many parishes within the county until  my husband's branch is found in 1822 in Astley and Areley Worcestershire close to where his mum was born in Stourport  a  century later.

Hello JMann,

Sorry I have only just seen your reply to me!

I have a surname directory for the 1881 census, so you put in the name and it tells you the frequency of that name by county.

Hi,

I've been researching my wife's family (Lippett) which I have traced back to Woolhope in Herefordshire. Her ancestor, James Lippett was born there in 1801 and died in there in 1868.

I went to the Hereford Records Office earlier this year and made notes of any Lippetts I came across. I noted the following entries from the 1851 census for Hereford which may be of interest to you :

Edward Lippett age 8 born Pencomb
Eliza Lippett age 12 Pencomb
Elizabeth Lippett age 5 Pencomb
John Lippett age 61 born Pencomb
Louisa Lippett age 17 Pencomb
Mary Lippett age 51 Pencomb
Robert Lippett age 4 Pencomb

Unfortunately I did not record their occupations.

I noted a total of 33 people called Lippett, Lippet or Lippit in the same census. They originated from Pencomb, Grendon Warr, Ashperton, St Peter Hereford, Redmorley, Woolhope, Humber and Stoke Prior.

The 1851 Census for Leominster showed 10 named Lippet from Stoke Prior and Humber.

Hope this helps.

Hello Pucklechurch56,

I've just now seen your message.  Please contact me for further information on the Lippett family.   We both have information that can help each other.   My husband's family has a branch from Woolhope as well.

And the Pencombe names you listed belong to us as well.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi JMann

The IGI index has the marriage of James Lyppyatt with Tereas Gallett, at Hanley Castle in Worcs., 19 May 1844.

Could be your Lippett family? I'm interested as I'm looking for a link between Galletts in the Woolhope & Shobdon areas of Herefordshire, and Galletts in Hanley Castle. I couldn't find any other Lyppyatts.

I’m sorry I didn’t get a notification of your reply.   Thanks for your message.

Our Eliza BAUGH married John LIPPITT  Sep 08, 1850 in the Parish of Hatfield and lived in Pencombe.  According to her marriage record her father’s name was Joseph.  The various census returns show Eliza was born in Bodenham in 1830-33, however searching the Bodenham parish records and surrounding parishes has not found her baptism so we don’t know positively who her mother was so I can’t honestly answer your question.

Hello Nick,

I didn’t get notification of your query either, although the “reply function” is turned on.

I’m afraid, I’m not familiar with a Gallett connection within the family as I know it at the moment.  I’m  aware of a fairly large Lyppiatt/Lippett family from Hanley Castle, however to date haven’t  found a link  between the two families.   Thanks for your post and if I come across anything I’ll post it here.

I have a connection to the Lippett family.  My ancestor Margory or Margaret Norman married John Lippett  at Pencolm in 1789.  Anyone have any further information on this family or, hopefully,
are connected to them.

Thank You
Linda

Hi Linda,

Please click on my name for my e-mail address and contact me.  My husband descends from John and Margory's first son, John.  We have knowledge of 5 children for this couple.

I look forward to hearing from you and comparing information.
