Avis Birth - Kildare

I have found Thomas Avis on 1871 census stating he was born 1804 Kildare.  Is there a way to look this birth up online?  I really need help as i am not familliar with Irish records at all.

I have already looked on Family Search IGI, i cant find anything on there..however i have found Avis births going back to 1500 in suffolk..which is where he was living.

Is there any way to tell if he was irish or if he was english but was born in ireland.  1851 census says he was a british subjest born ireland.

Any advice or help would be most greatfully recieved.
