Robinson of Carnaby
« on: Monday 15 November 04 20:22 UTC (UK) »

Could somebody please look up the Robinson family of Carnaby House, Carnaby in the 1851 & 1861 Census.  George Robinson died in 1852 but other family members may have taken over before this.  The house was in the family until the late 19th century.
I am also interested in finding what happened to his 14 children who were Elizabeth b 1796, Esther b 1797, Alice b 1819, Henry b 1810, George b 1799, Thomas b 1802, Thomas b 1805, Thomas b 1815, William b 1801, John b 1808, Frances b 1798, Ellen b 1803, Ann b 1806 & Mary b 1811.
Lastly I have so far been unable to establish who George Robinson senior's parents were & when Carnaby House came into the Robinson family.
All help on the above would be much appreciated.

I had a look at the 1861 census for this place in Carnaby, not very big it would seem and found this Henry Robinson living there, which I suppose must have been the house you are talking about although no address as such.

This another Robinson in Carnaby, don't know where she would fit in.

This is 1851 census, for George Robinson, but my version of 1851, lists names in alphabetcical order, not family groups, so I will have to search for those at 2367/75r which will take some finding.

There are a number of William's etc, but any further clues would help, as the the number of Robinson's is huge.

Thanks Wobbly very interesting.

Can anybody tell me of any Robinsons living in Carnaby on the 1871 Census & the 1891 Census as I know they were still the owners of Carnaby House.
Also
If anybody has the 1871 & 1891 census's for Bridlington the grandchild of George
may have had a house there as well.  His name was HASSEL POAD ROBINSON & he was a widower.
And finally
Please please does anybody know who the parents of Hassel Poad Robinson are? I've had conflicting information & don't even know if he was born in Carnaby!!

Hi Gillbill
I read your message regarding Robinsons with interest because
I have some Robinsons who used to live in a house named Hasal House which is  near Appleton le Street North Yorks Could there be a connection with Hassel Poad Robinson? My Robinsons worked for the Strickland family (of turkey fame) who had connections with Boynton Hall not far from Carnaby.
I suppose it is a very long shot with such a common surname.

Hi Sues

That is interesting.  Strickland built a monument in Carnaby & was a large land

owner in the Carnaby / Boynton area.  I've a feeling I found a William Robinson,

farmer at Mount Pleasant on the Strickland Estate but at the moment I can't find

where I made a note of the exact facts.  I will hunt & get back to you.  I looked on

a map for Appleton-le-Street & see it is near Malton not too far away.

Although Robinson is common the Hassel certainly isn't.
