Disappearing HEMMENS girls
« on: Thursday 30 November 06 16:52 UTC (UK) »

David HEMMENS b1805 Winscombe Somerset had four daughters:

Mary Ann b1830
Hester c1831
Phebe b1833
Eliza b1836

I cannot find a marriage record for any of them, though I know at least one of them married as David is listed in 1881 as living with his grandson Herbert Appleby aged 11.

I have one spurious marriage for Mary Ann in 1847 Axbridge, though I cannot find a spouse.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

Adrian.

As you have found a David Appleby listed as grandson how does this marriage grab you...

1852, 3rd, Bedminster, 5c, 1165 - Mary Ann HEMMENS, possible grooms - MATTHEW APPLEBY or Edwin Price...

On Free BMD I can see two possible deaths for HESTER (one in 1842, one in 1846, both Axbridge) and a possible for PHEBE in 1848, again Axbridge.

Can't find marriages for either of them.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear - David Hemmens is the grandfather of Herbert Appleby - I don't know Herbert's fathers name but Matthew looks worth investigating.

Looking for a reason for Herbert to be living with his Grandfather in 1881 I searched for the death of Mary Ann Hemmens:

Mar 1879
Hemmens  Mary Ann  44  Wells  5c 4

I still need to confirm the Matthew Appleby connection though.
