MI in Auldearn churchyard
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 15:20 UTC (UK) »

My gx3 uncle Roderick McDonald died in Rafford, Moray, in 1856 age 67. His Death Registry entry shows him as being buried in Auldearn Churchyard. As he was born in Ferintosh in the Black Isle, ROC, and had lived his later years in Rafford (he was there in both 1841 and 1851) the only reason I can think of for him to go to Auldearn for burial instead of the much nearer cemetery in Rafford village was because his wife had previously been buried there.
She was Margaret Cameron, born in Nairn in 1785, parents Alexander Cameron and Isabel Wilson. She was with Roderick in Rafford in 1841 but he was a widower in 1851. That is all I know about her; I can't even find their marriage in OPR.
If anyone has any knowledge of MI's in Auldearn or can look them up I would be grateful if they could let me know what it says.

Saw your message and I just happen to have Auldearn M.I's. The one you want is as follows
Erected by Roderick McDonald, Forester at Burgie, in memory
of his wife Margaret Cameron who died on 14th Nov 1849.
I hope this has helped

Hello Seoni,
Thanks very much for that. It is very helpful as it confirms what I suspected, that Roderick was buried in Auldearn because his wife was also. Surprising though that there isn't a mention of Roderick himself. I don't suppose your source for Auldearn MIs has anything about him?

Sorry Alistair,
No info at this time but if I find anything I will be in touch. I am compiling a database of local families so you never know.
