Hi Ken
I am replying to this message, so that it doesn't get lost with the Frey/Lehmann messages
We do have a couple of the Mampel's but could this be family also.....

Was in the US before - 1923-1924, Miami, Fla.

When he arrived in 1923, his relative is shown as Uncle Mr M Mampel, 211, W107th Street, New York
(I have typed the address on 1928 manifest as it is printed but when Otto travelled in 1935, his place of birth is shown as Ilmenau)

Also I have found Hirsh (Hersch) Mampel, age 20 (born about 1884), arriving in 1904.
His relative is shown as "brother M Mampel, 142, E45th Street, New York

It was quite common for emigrants to drop an umlaut vowel (ä) and make an english (or american) vowel out of it (a).
And with three christian names, it is definitely worth an e-mail to the contact address for Anna Ida, asking whether they know of a Carl Otto Gunther Mämpel.
Write in english, and if you have problems, let me know, and I'll help out with german.
