Hi
I have been trying to search my ancestors in Scotland and have just hit a brick wall. I have found the marriage of Donald McTavish and Jane Taylor whom was married on 16 May 1841 in Sanquhar, Dumfries.
I have also found a census record for 1841 for a Donald (25), Jane (25) and Janet (6 months) McTavish.
The family emigrated to Australia on the Wanata in Oct 1852 with children Janet, John, Sarah and Duncan.
I really just wanted to get to the next step and find their parents. On Donald McTavish death cert it states that Duncan McTavish (Farmer) was his father but mother was not stated. On Jane McTavish (Taylor) death cert it states her mother's name as Janet and father looks like it was Adam (Brickmaker).
Any information that you could give me would be most beneficial and appreciated!
Thank You
Andrea

Monica Monica you just solved a mystery for me with this post I have been a bit confused about a GGG Grandfather who I have seen as Daniel in one place then a Donald popped up, I thought maybe he was a brother but it fits that his name has been interchanged. See what you can learn here, thanks for that Cheers Merideth

Thank You Andrea Many MacTavishes changed their names after "The Battle of Culloden 1745/46" to "Thomson or Thompson" in order to disguise themselves and their former name. Many Thomsons etc. are really MacTavishes. Google "Clan MacTavish" etc.
