Hi Lee,
Have you sent for copies of their birth certificates? These will give you information about their parents.
Harry Leslie Butcher June 1909 Tendring 4a 799
Rose Elizabeth E Long June 1909 Tendring 4a 777
Good luck,
Nanny Jan

Hello Lee I assume you would like to find Harry and Rose's ancestors, in which case it would be useful to find their families on the 1901 census. To do that we need to have some idea of their parents' names. Do you have either of their birth certificates? Or their marriage certificate (as this will give fathers' names). Barbara

Lee,
Colchester will use different references for the births; the ones I gave you were from the GRO records.
Happy hunting!

Lee,
Now you have the names of all four parents you can look for their marriage certificates! Each new certificate usually gives you more information.
Good luck,
Nanny Jan

Well Lee, I'm struggling to find Ernest too and I am definitely not rubbish Do you have his occupation from the birth certificate as that will help narrow down any possibilities. If you can't find someone on the census you can try just using a first name only plus place of birth and/or approx age. This helps track the ones where the surname has been mistranscribed. If the person has more than one forename it is worth trying the other names too. Also forenames are often mis-spelt or spelt differently from what you expect eg Harriet/Harriett/Harriott or Ernest/Earnest! Will keep looking for you but the occupation would be useful. Maybe we can find him then on the 1891. Barbara
