Charles Byrne
« on: Thursday 24 August 06 05:49 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help please.

I'm looking for the birth record of Charles Byrne on 4th October 1849 'ish', though one source says 4/10/1857 - I think the former is more likely.
He had siblings

Peter Byrne, born Feb 23 1852 (Canadian death certificate).
Andrew Byrne, born Aug 12 1857(Can. death certificate).
Possibly a brother John and a sister.

His father's name was Patrick and his mother Mary.

It's parish of birth that's missing.

If anyone has access to Wicklow births I'd be very gateful for any help.

Thanks alot

I have professional as well as personal knowledge that many Irish births were not formally registered, and even during the 1940's the problem was still occurring.  In addition during times of 'war/unrest' many official documents got burnt.

New birth registration was initially the task of midwives until the law was changed to parental responsibility.

My own situation was rescued by obtaining a baptismal certificate from the parish where christened.

I commissioned some research in St Andrew's RC for my GGF Danial O"Byrne. They did not find his birth but they did find the following Baptism 12th Oct 1857 Charles Joseph son of Peter and Catherine Byrne. Sponsord Jane Byrne and someone Hart. . Could this be your Charles . There is also a marriage for Peter Byrne and Catherine Kavanagh 7/9/1855. Michael Gormley and Pat Dunne witnesses
Any help

If you visit "Halpin family of Wicklow", page 4, I think you may find references to a few Byrnes which might prove useful to you. Cheers.

If the family were Catholic you may be able to find details on the Irish Family History Foundation website at : http://www.irish-roots.ie/

At he moment the system only includes Catholic baptism transcripts for Co. Wicklow. It's a pay site and it costs 5 euro to view each detail.

one other point to note is that Civil registration of birth did not commence here until 1864. If if any of the family were born after that then they should be included in the civil registers - the index can be searched at the familysearch site : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347
