Hello all,

i am looking for confirmation of possible parents to William spence b 1827 in Rye Donegal.

At the moment i have Oliver as possible father???

Also william married Margaret Spence daughter of george Spence?Huh

any help would be much appreciated.

William and Margaret had the following children all b in Rye

Mary b 1851
William b 1856
Martha b1864.

Do you know what religion then family were? Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages began 1845 (from 1864 for Catholic marriages) and should list fathers' name and occupation. You can search the index (free)-

The link works but may be a browser problem (there was a thread about that a while ago). Hopefully you'll be able to get it through www.familysearch.org.

Have just been into pilot search  no Spence comes up with doing a search of Spence Ireland.
Tried using all their names but nothing.

I got 434 Spences in Co. Donegal come up in index.
Go to page for index and put in 'Spence' as surname then click the search button. Then select 'Donegal' from 'Place' option.

There's a death for Oliver Spence in 1877 Letterkenny registration district (age 88 so born c1789)- wonder if this is one of yours (lots of other Oliver Spences so you need to check all entries).

Found a match for you-
William SPENCE marriage 1852 Letterkenny registration district volume 6 page 565
Margaret SPENCE- same details

With the above information you can order the marriage certificate which should list the fathers' names and occupations.

I wet back into Pilot search entered Spence hit search up came 5000+ hit place and selected Donegal Ireland but only got 43 to search none of the ones you have given me .
