Devan Family

I am looking for any info concerning the Devan Family.  My ggranda George was born in Stranraer in 1895, his father John born in 1873,  in Stranraer but married in Airdrie and after that must have gone back to Stranraer. I know that they were a local family, I am wondering if there is any of the family still living in the area.

Hi djc

In case no-one in here has a connection it is possible to bring your tree forward to the present day using the certificates you already have but it does mean a visit to GROS - either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I was able to do this using just my granny's birth certificate and found living cousins that my dad didn't know he had!

or start backwards to come forwards!!!

your john who was born in 1873 was the son of james, he was also a TWIN

james devan was born 1841 kelton, kirkcudbright and married annie boyd (1845 kelton) in kelton in 1866.

devan children:

annie-23/5/1867 kelton
james-22/8/1869 kelton
agnes-28/6/1871 kelton
TWINS-thomas & john(your connection) 12/7/1873 stranraer

you can now follow up this family throught the censuses.

i hope some kind soul will find your family for you, if you go back a little further you maybe find that your family came from ireland.

Hi folks thanks for the information, I have picked up several of his siblings in later censuses, living all over the country, mainly by John staying with them on on census night.  I will try and track down the rest to see if they stayed or wandered this great country.
